Cerebral Palsy Plus - Celebrating friendship
The Friendship Club
Cerebral Palsy Plus is an English-based charity supporting disabled communities in Bristol. The charity runs and Evening Club for adults to bring people with cerebral palsy together, combating social exclusion and increasing connections. Transportation is a barrier for disabled people, and to combat this, the charity provides transport to the Club. Without this, many would be stuck at home, unable to access the social interaction and friendship available to them.
How the Trust helped
Cerebral Palsy received a £1,500 grant from the James and Grace Anderson Trust to provide accessible transportation for the Cerebral palsy community in Bristol. The grant helped people with Cerebral palsy fostering peer connections and providing opportunities to participate in activities that would have otherwise been inaccessible.
The importance of connection and inclusion
Many people with Cerebral palsy are at risk of isolation. The Friendship Club combats this with 100% of participants reporting they feel less lonely because of the Club (February 2025 Survey). The charity has around 25 people who attend the Club weekly, and 15 who rely on transport support, without which they would be excluded.
