Heel & Toe
Heel & Toe received £1,500 from the James and Grace Anderson Trust in 2023.
Heel & Toe provides free and subsidised therapies to around 220 children with cerebral palsy and other physical disabilities every week. They receive no government funding and currently need to raise £1,000,000 each year, to continue providing life-changing therapies to children across the North East, so rely on support from funders, businesses, and the community.
In late 2021 Heel & Toe were awarded £10,000 from National Lottery Awards for All England to pilot their Hippotherapy project. Hippotherapy is the use of horse riding as a therapeutic treatment, and the goal is to improve function, gait, and balance. The pilot found incredibly impactful results for the children and their families, and the charity would now like to open this project up to more children at Heel & Toe.
With the help from the James and Grace Anderson Trust, Heel & Toe are now able to offer this project to their families, fully funded. Hippotherapy is an innovative service for the region, and Heel & Toe’s clinical lead is only one of few professional therapists specially trained and experienced in delivering hippotherapy to children in the UK.
“We are very excited to be able to offer an inclusive and innovative new project at Heel & Toe. We aim to support children with disabilities to improve their quality of life and independence so that they can look forward to a future where possibilities and opportunities are not constrained by their disability. Thank you to James and Grace Anderson Trust for supporting the charity, and helping us achieve our goal of supporting disabled children across the North East region.”
